An Alabama tribute, corgi races and more Wausau events

Roll On: A Tribute to Alabama

Friday, 1/19 | Lucille Tack Center for the Arts, Spencer

Roll on Alabama

This is the first of two tribute acts coming to the area this week. The Lucille Tack Center for the Arts in Spencer will host Roll On, a tribute to one of the biggest country bands of all time, Alabama. For those who weren’t around for it (myself included), Alabama had over 27 number one hits throughout the 1980s and seven multi-platinum albums. Although the real band broke up in 2004, this seven-piece band does everything in its power to channel the unique talents of Alabama, faithfully recreating the act in all its glory. 7:30 pm. $40.

Corgi Races & Wausau Cyclones
Saturday, 1/20 | Marathon Park, Wausau

wausau cyclones

Two athletic events are happening in the same building on Saturday evening. First, the local NA3HL team the Wausau Cyclones are playing the Peoria Mustangs, which is a great opportunity to cheer for the home team and indulge in a little Wisconsin-Illinois rivalry. But equally intriguing is the intermission entertainment, Corgi dog races. Corgis are some of the cutest dogs I’ve ever seen, so it sounds like a Corgi race promises to be very entertaining. Special Corgi Dog Races t-shirts will be for sale, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Marathon County Humane Society. Hockey and hounds, how about it? 7 pm. $10-25. Kids under 5 free. Foreign Nights: A Tribute to Foreigner

Saturday, 1/20 | Campanile Center for the Arts, Minocqua

Head Games

And here is this week’s second tribute act! Foreign Nights is tribute to another major bestselling band, Foreigner. Formed in 1976 in New York City, the band got its name because half the band was American while the other half was British – thus, no matter which country they were in, some of them would inevitably be ‘foreigners’. The band performing as Foreigner is called Head Games, which is probably not coincidentally also the name of Foreigner’s 1979 album. The tribute also incorporates songs by Night Ranger, another best-selling 1980s rock band. If you found yourself humming Double Vision just now, you may have already bought your tickets to this show. 7 pm. Adults $30; students $15; Gold tickets $37. campanilecenter.org
