MariKay and Jordyn Thompson plan to open Pearl Luvs Earl clothing at the end of this month in a building near Thrive.

When Thrive Foodery opened nearly two years ago, some considered the former industrial area north of downtown an unusual choice of location.

But with the popular restaurant and Athletic Park’s extensive renovations, the neighborhood is becoming an attractive destination. MariKay Thompson and her daughter Jordyn Thompson hope to capitalize on that.

Tucked behind Athletic Park on Third Street, their Pearl Luvs Earl boutique combines a crafty bohemian style with an industrial backdrop fitting for the district. Inside is a wealth of unique clothing items for women of all ages.

The styles range from boho chic to business casual. “We want to target our market to everyone from high school students to grandmothers,” Jordyn says. Pearl Luvs Earl aims to fill a need by carrying both large and small sizes.

The duo also will carry items such as Little Billy Goat paints, which can give furniture a vintage look, plus shoes and accessories. MariKay Thompson points with delight to a box of socks called Sock it To Me, showing off a colorful pair with a curious bacon and eggs design. Even the fixtures are charming, including a clothing rack fashioned out of a wooden base and metal piping. The 1950s pin-up style logo draws the eye.

The boutique is named after Jordyn’s nickname and her grandfather who once owned a business in the same building. The Thompsons plan to open Pearl Luvs Earl on Sept. 28.
