Disc golfers: Rejoice!

A new disc golf course could be in the works for the village of Rothschild. Pete Hoover, who runs a design firm and coordinates the Wausau Area Disc Golf Enthusiasts club, is proposing a course that would be completed on Domtar property.

The nine-hole course would cost at least $25,000. Members of the Rothschild Parks Commission were enthusiastic about the idea, and a Domtar representative said the company is willing to provide the land. Some of the costs, such as the $8,000 for the baskets, could be shouldered by local sponsors.

Rib Mountain might have some involvement, because the course would be located on the Rib Mountain side of the river—the Rothschild boundary extends just a sliver beyond the river. Rothschild Village President George Peterson says the village wants more solid numbers and DNR approval before making any financial commitment.

The course would be located north of the pedestrian bridge in a flood plain zone unsuitable for building.
