Driver shortages leading to school bus route cancellations

A recent shortage of bus drivers have led to bus routes being canceled in the Wausau School District.

So far over seven days of school as of Monday 12 routes have been canceled, according to District’s Chief Finance and Business Officer Bob Tess. Tess says the shortages are something schools are dealing with nationwide.

Wausau Metro Ride has also dealt with bus driver shortages, which has been a struggle for the transportation organization. The bus service was unable to provide shuttle services to the Wausau Hmong Festival this year because of the driver shortages.

Tess told another outlet that if the shortage continues, next year the district might have to cancel routes outright.
