Marathon County Sheriff’s Office officials say they are investigating a shooting that occurred in the town of Wausau over the weekend.
Investigators say suspect 29-year-old Desmond Mayo shot 38-year-old several times in the late evening hours of Saturday. The victim, who police did not identify, drove himself to the hospital to be treated for the wounds.
Mayo is still at large as of this writing. Investigators say they believed he fled the state, so the public is not in danger.
Police however say Mayo should be considered armed and dangerous.
Sheriff’s Office officials say they didn’t immediately announce the shooting and investigation in order to preserve evidence and to not alert the suspect as they searched for him.
Everest Metro originally investigated the call since the man presented at a hospital in Weston; the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department took over when they realized the shooting had taken place in the town of Wausau.
