Memorial Pool is back open after a man’s death prompted a five-day closure.

Police were called to the pool on Wausau’s southeast side at about 8:30 on June 18 after an employee arrived to find a man’s body in the pool. The man, later identified as 46-year-old Shane Neumann, appears to have taken his own life, police say. Autopsy results are pending.

The county Health Department immediately shut down the newly remodeled pool, which had just opened June 10 amid much fanfare. Health officials partially drained the pool following the incident, then treated the water according to state regulations before the facility could safely reopen.
