Investigators are releasing few details about human remains found Nov. 17 at Rib Mountain State Park.
Two hunters called police after discovering the remains, according to the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies, along with SAFER Fire and state parks officials, responded, but have not publicly identified the identity of the deceased individual. The body, believed to be that of an adult male of Asian descent, was underneath a tree and “substantially decomposed,” police say.
Police say no local missing person report matches the body. A cause of death was not immediately clear, and no identification was found on the body. Sheriff’s officials say an investigation could be “lengthy,” but they do not believe there is any threat to public safety at this time.
