Corrected: The original post named the wrong elementary school, and the wrong day.

Wausau Police were called to an elementary school after they received reports of a student with a stun gun on school grounds.

Police say another student told staff around 10:10 am Wednesday that a 10-year-old student at Thomas Jefferson Elementary was carrying a stun gun. Police responded to the school and confiscated the gun without incident. Police officials say that it doesn’t appear the child threatened anyone with the gun or used it.

Police contacted the child’s parents and are still investigating how the student obtained the gun in the first place. Police did non specify the gender of the student they say brought a stun gun to schools.

The child will be referred to the Marathon County Social Services Juvenile Justices for possessing a weapon on school property.

School officials will determine any further consequences, police say.
