SENIOR PROGRAMS will stay at NCHC

Dozens of programs for senior citizens will remain in place at the North Central Health Care facility, even after the Aging and Disability Resource Center moves out of the building in December.

Hundreds of seniors received a letter in August informing them that the ADRC will move to a smaller location and would no longer operate the fitness room or other programs long held at the facility. The letter sparked fear, anger and sadness over the potential loss.

Unlike many other cities, Wausau has no official senior center. The ADRC staff unofficially has been supervising the programs because of their proximity to the recreational space, but the organization isn’t obligated to continue doing so.

The programs will continue at least through 2017 and will be run by volunteers, Loy says.
