Tammy Baldwin comes to Wausau

Senator Tammy Baldwin announced that she would be taking her “Fighting for Wisconsin Families Tour to Wausau on Wednesday morning to hear from constituents about the impacts of food assistance cuts from President Donald Trump and House Republicans’ “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.”

The legislation includes $186 billion in cuts from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) amid rising food insecurity across the nation.

From 2024-25, United Way of Marathon County met over 96.5k requests for food across the county. In addition, there were 18,998 SNAP recipients across Marathon County last year, 7,395 of which were children, according to data provided by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services’ FoodShare program.

Baldwin is expected to meet with community leaders from organizations around Marathon County at Wausau’s Community Partners Campus on the morning of Wed., August 27, after press time.
