Workers replace lead service lines on a southeast side street in 2024.

The city is seeking out help from residents to update its lead line inventory.

Wausau, through its EquiFlow program, replaced more than 600 private service lines last year and plans to tackle an additional 1,900 lines this year.

The city is one of the first in the country to benefit from lead line replacement funds through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, which provides a mix of grants and loans to help cities address their lead lines.

Lead exposure has been shown to have adverse health effects in humans, especially infants and children.

The city has an online map marked with the material of the lead line entering residents homes. If your property is listed as unknown, city leaders are asking residents to contact city officials in one of the following ways:

  1. Schedule an inspection with the EquiFlow Program staff by visiting the Equiflow Website at www.leadfreewausau.com or calling 715-793-7417
  2. Complete the online “self-verification” form by following the self-verification instructions on the Equiflow Website.
