Wisconsin Valley Fair Tues. – Sun. 7/29–8/3 | Marathon Park, Wausau
It’s that time of year once again. Head down to Marathon Park to enjoy your choice of fried foods on a stick, gawk at animals three times your size and unwind to live entertainment at the Grandstand. Season tickets are available for $30 at the Wisconsin Valley Fair Office, County Market or the fair website until July 28. Daily admission costs $10 before and $13 after 1 p.m. Children 10 and under get in free. Reserved tickets for featured entertainers Sawyer Brown, Parmalee and Night Ranger cost an additional $28, but concerts are otherwise included in ticket price. Architecture Amble Thursday 7/31 | Grand Ave., Schofield
Take a walk around Schofield’s Grand Ave. with the Friends of Wausau Historical Landmarks. Christine Martens will lead this tour, highlighting homes built between the 1890s and 1950s, a handful of schools, St. Peter Lutheran Church, the corner grocery store, chemical companies and local thespians. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes as there will be uneven surfaces and possibly stairs. 6 p.m. Free.
Join in the fun at the Hmong Wausau Festival, the premier Hmong cultural event in Central Wisconsin. This exciting event will feature a variety of sports tournaments as well as the cultural pageantry of singing, dancing and the Mr. Hmong Royalty Talent Pageant. There will also be food and merchandise vendors from across the nation. $11 one day admission pass. $20 two day admission pass. Children aged 10 and under are free. Seniors age 65 and older with valid ID are free.
Summer Soirée: Around the World
Wednesday 7/30 | The Milk Merchant, Wausau
Experience a taste of summer at The Milk Merchant. It is the third annual Summer Soireée. There will be two wine experts, Elizabeth Rachu from General Beverage and Tyler Babl from Allstate, each with eight to ten wines from around the world. Chef Maggie will be crafting bites to pair with the wine. Tickets can be bought at themilkmerchant.com for $85. 6 p.m.
Hand-building with Clay Wednesday 7/30 | Art on Grand, Wausau
Step away from the wheel and into the timeless art of hand-building. From Clay to Form is a foundational ceramics class where you can learn to shape clay with just your hands, a few simple tools and your imagination. Each class will last 2.5 hours on July 30, August 6, 13, 20, 27, September 3. $200. 9:30 a.m.
Coffee and Slow Stitch Fabric Collage Saturday 7/26 | First UU Church of Wausau, Wausau
Slow stitch fabric collage, or the art of selecting, arranging and combining diverse elements into harmonious chaos, can be a meditative and spiritual practice. The session’s theme is Craftivism. Open to adults and high school-aged youth. 9 a.m.
Film, Farm & Culture Fest of Wausau - My Sweet Land and A Man of Integrity Fri. & Sat. 7/25–26 | Woodson History Center, Wausau
It’s the second weekend of NTC’s Film, Farm & Culture Fest, with two more independent film selections to enjoy. On Friday, NTC will screen My Sweet Land, a coming-of-age documentary that follows an 11-year-old boy named Vrej whose life in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) is turned forever on its head when war breaks out. Saturday’s showing will be A Man of Integrity, a drama film about corruption and injustice in Iranian society. Screenings start at 6 p.m.
10th Annual Antique and Classic Car Show Wednesday 7/30 | Rennes Health & Rehab Center-Weston, Schofield
Join Rennes Group and the Road Knights of Wisconsin for their 10th annual car show, featuring antique and classic cars, live music by Dan Gruetzmacher, a cookout with burgers, brats and more and a silent auction, which will raise funds for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. 3 p.m. Free.
