Former Weston clerk charged with fraud more than a year later

Posted

A former village of Weston clerk fired early last year following a fraud investigation is now facing felony charges.

Theresa Coleman, 59 of Weston, is facing fraud/misconduct in office charges following an investigation into her time as clerk.

Coleman was fired in January 2023  as a result of the village’s own investigation, after a routine financial review found there were funds missing from the village. At the time, Everest Metro’s investigation was still ongoing.

According to the criminal complaint, Coleman as utility clerk took utility payments and credited them to her and her family members' accounts. The complaint alleges that she took more than $21,000 in this manner.

Coleman made an initial appearance in Marathon County Court last week after the fraud charges were filed in early June. Coleman is currently free on a $5,000 signature bond, court records indicate.
