The HT Cobblery's future is uncertain after the building’s owner shared plans to potentially tear the building down at the city’s Plan Commission meeting last month.
The building’s owner, Ryan Gallagher, told City Pages that he does have plans for a rooftop restaurant but that he wasn’t sure whether or not they would be tearing down the building. They’re still working with Boldt Construction on finalizing plans for the building.
Compass Properties bought the building in 2015 with the intention of building apartments with a rooftop patio after HT Cobblery closes. But the shoe store remained open and Compass sold the building in May to Gallagher, who runs Rocket Industrial and the Wausau Business show.
Gallagher told City Pages that the building was erected in the 1960s and has a false cobblestone facade to match the surrounding area. The building isn’t really historic.
