Marathon County only sees two layoff notices in 2024 so far

Marathon County itself has only had one WARN notice of impending layoffs so far this year, according to Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development notices. 

Connexus Credit Union filed a layoff notice in September, affecting 16 workers, according to the filing. That was the only one to be filed in all of 2024 specifically for Marathon County, according to data posted on the department’s website. Those layoffs were set to begin Monday, according to the notice.

Another, filed by Cygnus Home Service, affected 32 workers in a number of areas, including Wausau and Marshfield, according to the notice filed. 

Companies are required to file notices with the Department of Workforce Development when they anticipate significant layoffs. 

No other notices were filed in all of central Wisconsin in 2024. 

Few notices were filed in central Wisconsin in 2023 as well. Layoff notices came from Marshfield Clinic in Marathon County and other central Wisconsin counties.
