Ted Vigil: A Tribute to John Denver

Thursday 2/6 | Lucille Tack Center for the Arts, Spencer

Most people think of John Denver as a 70s musician - and for good reason. The bulk of his hit songs were written and performed in the 1970s. But Denver was pretty active in the 1960s folk scene and his music was inspired by those times. Ted Vigil impressively not only sounds like the late nature-based folk musician, but he sure looks like him too. Vigil isn’t an impersonator to be clear - he considers what he does a tribute to the artist behind “Rocky Mountain High” and “Country Boy.” But based on how he looks and sounds, you’ll think otherwise. 7 pm. $40. lucilletackcenter.com

A Cry of Players

Thurs-Sun 2/6-9 | Various locations in Wausau, Marshfield and Stevens Point

When people think of UW-Stevens Point, the first thing that usually comes to mind is the College of Natural Resources. But the university is known for a few other things too, which might surprise you. Its interior architecture program is renowned and sought after. Also on that list is its theater department, and people really come from far and wide to get into the program. That benefits the Wausau with another truly exceptional theater program to watch. In this play, famed playwright William Gibson crafts a witty and imagined look at the life of William Shakespeare, one of the greatest writers of the English language, and one about which the least is known. Thurs: 7:30 pm Wausau; Friday 7:30 pm Stevens Point; Saturday 2 pm and 7:30 pm Stevens Point; Sunday 2 pm Marshfield.

Dirty Dancing in Concert

Saturday 2/8 | Grand Theater, Wausau

Quinton Tarantino famously said the 80s was one of the worst decades for movies. Well, I think he’s wrong. (But maybe we just remember the films from our childhood fondly?) Dirty Dancing is one of the most iconic 80s movies from the decade, and no one can hear the song “The Time of My Life” without thinking of that film (and frankly, of an era with different attitudes toward romance and love). This event brings to life the music of Dirty Dancing with a live band while the film is projected behind them - sounds like a pretty epic 80s experience to me! 7:30 pm. $35-$77. grandtheater.org

Murder Mystery Dinner: Peace, Love and Murder

Thurs.-Fri. 2/6-7 | Willow Springs Garden, Maine

OK, I can’t think of the word murder mystery without imagining Michael Scott saying “I do declare” (Office fans, if you know, you know). This one has nothing to do with the south or The Office though - instead it has more to do with the 60s. Peace, Love and Murder promises to be one groovy mystery, baby. Enjoy a three-course meal, costumed characters to help get you into the vibe of things and a cocktail hour beforehand. 5:15 pm both nights. Limited spots available. $60. willowspringsgardens.com

Mia Brown and the Get Down

Friday 2/7 | Intermission, Wausau

Mia Brown is one of the city’s great success stories. Growing up in Wausau, she ultimately was signed with Big Timber Entertainment in Nashville in 2023. Her music is a blend of pop with a little twist of country, the perfect vehicle for her powerful vocals, which are inspired by the likes of Amy Winehouse, Stevie Nicks, Steven Tyler and Kacey Musgraves. In this show she’ll bring her band The Get Down to the Intermission, which has been quietly hosting a strong music lineup as of late. 9 pm. Intermission Bar on Facebook.

Central Wisconsin Sports Show

Fri-Sun 2/7-9 | Central Wisconsin Expo and Convention Center, Rothschild

This event is dedicated to everything fishing, boating and hunting related, with a number of vendors, hands-on demonstrations and learning experiences for everyone from the novice to experts. 3-8 pm Friday, 9 am-6 pm Saturday and 10 am-4 pm Sunday.
