The Wausau and Marathon County Parks, Recreation and Forestry department has announced that the concrete portion of the new Oak Island Skatepark will have its grand opening this weekend.
The skate park renovation is a project that the city of Wausau has been working on since 2022. Construction began in July of this year with phase one now complete.
Phase two will include refurbishing the old skatelite ramps and then placing them on the southern flat concrete section of the new park. This is anticipated to be done late this fall, according to the Wausau and Marathon County Parks, Recreation and Forestry department.
The grand opening will be held on Sunday, August 10 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at 500 River Dr., Wausau. Mayor Doug Diny will be there to welcome the public. There will also be a ribbon cutting at 11:15, along with snacks, refreshments and a skate jam.
