River Edge Parkway continues to grow

Posted

Peckham Way is the newest addition to the River Edge Parkway Trail Extension, and now, plans are underway to extend the River Edge Parkway trail by connecting Adolph Street to D.C. Everest Park in Wausau.

The River Edge Parkway is a trail that runs along both the east and west banks of the Wisconsin River. While many portions of the trail are now complete, there are still some extensions that require construction or some form of connection.

The city of Wausau will be hosting a Community Engagement Session to inform the public about the plan as well as get feedback on the proposed plan. The meeting will be held at the D.C. Everest Park Shelter on Thursday, September 18 at 5:30 p.m.

The most recently completed portion of the trail, Peckham Way, runs from Thomas Street to Adolph Street. The ribbon-cutting ceremony for Peckham Way was held on Monday, August 4. Along with the ribbon cutting ceremony, former city council member Pat Peckham was honored for his contributions to the community.

“I am hopeful that those who visit this trail will be inspired by Pat’s life and legacy, reminding all of us that with kindness, civility and determination, much is possible,” said Lisa Rasmussen, Wausau City Council president.
