Sandy’s Splash raises funds for literacy

Posted

Wausau businesses, community members and kids came together to raise $5,675 for local literacy programs this summer vacation.

Area business sponsors and 63 local kids teamed up for Wausau’s fourth annual summer reading incentive program: Sandy’s Summer Splash Into Reading. The program had participants ages six to 12 keep track of the minutes they read throughout the first six weeks of summer vacation while sponsors donated a penny for every minute toward local literacy programs.

Wausau Early Birds Rotary Club's Reading to Go program and the Marathon County Literacy Council were two programs that were helped by the money.

Sandy’s Summer Splash Into Reading began in 2022 to further incentivize young readers and boost literacy. To date, the event has raised $13,129.26.
