Save a life this September

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.

According to the Marathon County Department of Health, there have been 3,518 total calls in Marathon County to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline since July 2022.

The 988 hotline is available 24/7 across the United States and can be called for any reason, whether someone is struggling with their mental health, feeling overwhelmed by work or school, arguing with friends or loved ones or just needs someone to vent to.

There is also an official 988 toolkit, which can be accessed at https://988lifeline.org/988-day.

In addition, hyper-local resources are available to Marathon County residents through FindHelp in conjunction with the 2022–26 Marathon County Community Health Improvement Plan. Financial assistance, food pantries, medical care and other free or reduced-cost help can be found through Aspirus at https://aspiruscommunity-resources.findhelp.com and through the Marshfield Clinic Health System at https://caringforcommunities.findhelp.com.

The Marathon County Death Review Team encourages residents to be aware of some of the signs that someone may be struggling: sudden calm after a deep sadness; giving away prized possessions; saying unusual goodbyes; and withdrawing from roles they once valued. If you or someone or you know is showing these signs, call 988 or visit 988lifeline.org.
