State Patrol to monitor Hwy. 51 traffic from the sky June 12

Posted

The Wisconsin State Patrol plans to conduct aerial enforcement over U.S. Highway 51 in Marathon County on Friday, June 12. Wisconsin State Patrol pilots are scheduled to keep an eye out for traffic violations from the air, weather permitting.

The primary mission is public safety, according to the State Patrol, which includes enforcing traffic laws to help make sure drivers reach their destinations safely. Aerial enforcement is one way to enhance public safety efforts.

From the air, it’s easier for officers to spot drivers who are speeding or driving aggressively, the State Patrol advises.

When a pilot observes a violation, they communicate with ground-based units to initiate a traffic stop. Many aerial enforcement missions are announced publicly by the State Patrol to reinforce their goal of improving safety through voluntary compliance with traffic laws.
