Nonprofit seeks new space

Posted

Following the loss of their former space, Wausau’s branch of the nonprofit AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program is seeking assistance in locating a site that can host them during their annual tax-season operations.

“For many years, our program has been fortunate to be able to use the county building at 212 River Drive,” said Susan Mortensen, the local coordinator of the Wausau UW Extension AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program. “Next year, this building will not be available.”

Tax-Aide’s IRS-trained volunteers offer tax assistance and preparation to taxpayers free of charge, on average donating 100 hours of their time or more each year. In the last five years, Tax-Aide’s volunteers have prepared and filed 2,987 tax returns for low- to moderate-income residents in the Wausau area.

According to Mortensen, an ideal Tax-Aide site would be accessible to all people. including those with disabilities; have adequate parking; have sufficient space, tables, chairs, electrical outlets and wi-fi to accommodate client interviews and electronic filing of tax returns; and be provided at no cost to Tax-Aide or its clients. Being located on the bus line is optional, but would be a plus.

For questions or suggestions related to finding a new space for Wausau’s Tax-Aide site, reach out to Susan Mortensen at smortensen0084@charter.net or 715-551-0084.
