Evers announces final term

Posted

In a love letter to Wisconsin, Governor Tony Evers has announced that he will be retiring after his second term.

In the letter, he said that after completing his term, he would like to focus on spending time with his family.

“For five decades, my family has sacrificed to give me the gift of service. They’re my world. And I owe it to them to focus on doing all the things we enjoy and love doing together. It’s why, Wisconsin, I’m announcing that I will not be running for a third term,” said Evers.

Tony Evers has served as Wisconsin’s governor for six years, with his second term ending in 2026. He is now 73, with three kids and nine grandchildren.

“There is, as always, much work to do,” said Evers. “And, Wisconsin, I’ll be working just as hard as I have for the last six years to keep doing the right thing and deliver for you. So, let’s get back to work. Forward, for you and for Wisconsin, always.”

Evers is the 46th governor of Wisconsin. Before being elected governor, he worked for 10 years as state superintendent of education.

Some of the possible contenders for governor of Wisconsin right now include Wisconsin Democratic Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez, Attorney General Josh Kaul, Former Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, businessman Bill Berrien, Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann and U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany.
