Two killed in crash in Wausau

Two people were killed and two more were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Friday, Sept. 26, in the Town of Wausau.

On Friday evening, the Marathon County Emergency 911 Dispatch Center received a report of a head-on collision near the intersection of State Highway 52 and Forest Lawn Rd. in the Town of Wausau.

Two people, identified by the Marathon County Medical Examiner’s Office as Shirley and Arlen Eirckson, aged 81 and 82 respectively, were pronounced dead at the scene. Another person sustained serious injuries requiring medical treatment at a local hospital, with a fourth person being treated at the scene for less serious injuries.

State Highway 52 was closed for approximately six hours following the crash, according to the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office will not release any further information at this time.
