The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School girls swim team secured eight total entries for the upcoming Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Swimming and Diving Championships and broke five school records during Saturday’s WIAA sectionals meet. The team finished third overall among 14 competing schools.
“All five girls have much to be proud of leaving this weekend,” said Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School Swim Coach Lauren Bahr. “Almost every race was either a season- or personal-best time.”
The team is sending six individual entries and two relays to the state championships, scheduled for next weekend at Waukesha South High School.
Record-setting swims made splashes throughout the day. The medley relay team of Brooklynn Beran, Reese Dickman, Kelsie Davis and Eleanor Tassler set a new record of 1:50.17, besting their school’s previous time.
Davis also set two other school records, breaking both her own 100 fly personal record set last year and an individual medley record last set 20 years ago, with times of 59:04 and 2:10:87, respectively.
Dickman also broke two school records, with a times of 1:06.24 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 24.40 in the 50-yard freestyle. The school’s previous breaststroke record was set 18 years ago.
