The Association of Wisconsin Artists has announced in a press release that the Wisconsin Regional Art Program-Teen State Conference Exhibit is now on display at the Center for the Visual Arts in Wausau.
The exhibit features 41 works of art by young artists from 19 towns across Wisconsin. The exhibit celebrates the creativity and talent of students and emerging artists across the state.
The public is invited to attend the exhibit reception on Friday, August 8 at 7 p.m. at the CVA. During the reception the artists will be recognized for their work. The evening will include art themed gifts, raffle baskets, photo opportunities and interactive activities like button making.
Cindy Martin, a nationally recognized watercolorist and retired art educator from Antigo, served as a juror for this year’s WRAP-Teen exhibit.
“It was very difficult to select the best of the best, as all of the work presented had merit and deserved accolades,” she said. “When evaluating the pieces, I begin with the principles and elements of art as the foundation. From there, I considered technical merit, originality and the emotional response the work evokes—which may include cultural or historical significance, or what some might call the story within the artwork. I was truly impressed with the quality and maturity of the submissions, and I look forward to sharing my insights and meeting these talented young artists.”
WRAP-Teen is part of the larger Wisconsin Regional Art Program, which is organized by the Association of Wisconsin Artists. WRAP-Teen and WRAP-Kids support young artists ages five–19.
Typically, the WRAP State Conference is held annually at the Pyle Center on the UW-Madison campus. However, every three years, the WRAP-Teen State Exhibit is hosted in northern Wisconsin at the CVA to increase accessibility for northern artists. This marks a new chapter for the AWA as the WRAP-Teen State Exhibit is held independently from the adult WRAP conference for the first time, giving young artists their own space and recognition.
“This is one of the most creative exhibits we have had,” said President of the Association of Wisconsin Artists and WRAP-Teen State Coordinator, Jeane Ferreira. “The sophistication of these young artists is exciting.”
The WRAP-Teen State Exhibit will remain on display until the August 8 reception. For more information, visitbhttps://wiscartists.wildapricot.org/.
