The trial for the man accused of killing a Wausau woman and burying her body in a Wabeno-area forest has been postponed for a second time.
Kristopher Torgerson, 36, is facing charges of first-degree intentional homicide, attempted armed robbery and hiding a corpse in connection with the death of Stephanie Low. A three-week trial had been set to begin July 18.
Low was 22 when she disappeared in October 2010 from her Wausau apartment, and was considered a missing person until shortly before Torgerson led police to her body. Her remains were discovered September 2014.

Torgerson’s trial was originally set to begin in May, but that date was pushed back after Torgerson in January fired his attorney and decided to handle the case himself. But at a motions hearing in May, Torgerson changed his mind and asked to have an attorney represent him. Thomas Wilmouth was appointed July 1 to represent Torgerson and the trial date was again postponed to give Wilmouth enough time to prepare his case. A new trial date has not yet been set.
Torgerson is currently serving a five-year prison sentence in Waupun Correctional Institution on unrelated drug trafficking charges with a release date of August 2017. If he serves his full prison term before being tried on homicide charges, he will be transferred to the Marathon County Jail and held on a $2 million cash bond.
