A harvest fest, a bike race, a one-man band and more this weekend

Brass Queens

Thursday 10/10 | Grand Theater, Wausau

Horns in modern music is just a favorite of mine. That’s probably why this particular show – a group composed of all women, all horns – caught my attention. Cofounders Alex Harris and Ally Chapel were frustrated with how the New York brass scene seemed to be completely dominated by men, so they started their own group. The result is Brass Queens, a band that celebrates the sound of the Big Apple mixed with the Big Easy. And even better, it’s part of the 10×10 series, which means it won’t brass your wallet too badly either. 7:30 pm. $10. grandtheater.org

Selah

Friday 10/11 | Lucille Tack Center for the Arts, Spencer

It may or may not be your cup of tea, but Selah has become one of the biggest acts in Christian music, selling more than 4 million albums and garnering more than 900 million streams. Selah plays everything from versions of the hymns you know and love to classic Christian songs and their own stellar originals as well. If you’re into Christian music this is probably where you should be on Oct. 11. 7:30 pm. $25-45, with $45 VIP ticket available to meet and greet before the show. lucilletackcenter.com

Ringle Harvest Fest

Saturday 10/12 | Downtown Ringle

As the old McSweeney’s article states, “it’s decorative gourd season…” Well I can’t say the rest, but rest assured, fall is here, and that means it’s time for harvest fests! Ringle Harvest Fest is in its 28th season and will feature more than 100 vendors on grass, parking lots and the roads of Ringle. Besides the vendors, there is plenty for the kids and adults alike with a petting zoo, food trucks, antiques, arts, crafts, and as their event said, “good, old junk.” And most assuredly, there will be pumpkins and gourds around. 9 am to 3 pm. Ringle Harvest Day on Facebook.

Central Wisconsin Indigenous Peoples Pow-Wow

Sat.-Sun. 10/12-13 | Central Wisconsin Visitors and Convention Center, Rothschild

Indigenous People’s Day is an important part of native culture, and this Pow Wow celebrates that culture in a two-day festival that features Native American dancing, drumming, vendors and food. There will be a Grand Entry at 1 pm and 7 pm, and a feast at 5 pm on Saturday; And another Grand Entry at noon on Sunday. And don’t miss the art market, with plenty of indigenous crafts to be found. It’s a fun event for the whole family. Doors open at 10 am both days. Free. Central Wisconsin Indigenous People’s Day Committee on Facebook.

Red Granite Grinder

Saturday 10/12 | The 400 Block, Wausau

Some of you like getting up really early in the morning to ride a bicycle really, really far. And if that sounds good, boy have I got an event for you! Grab your gravel bike (or mountain bike, or whatever bike you think can handle the terrain) and choose between a ride of 50, 85 or 144 miles over ATV trails, gravel roads, parks, forests, ginseng fields and more as you race toward the finish. The ride finishes at the 400 Block which will be set up to be a party atmosphere. Bonus Friday group ride with the race director, women’s skills clinic and more. 7 am. See ironbull.org for prices and complete details.

Bradley Sperger

Thursday 10/10 | The Garage, Wausau

Bradley Sperger

There’s something especially impressive to me about a guy who can put together a band all by himself. Bradley Sperger is just that — the rock/blues musician builds an entire song by himself, and you get to watch him do it live adding percussion, bass, guitar and effects onto his track while he sings over it! On top of that, Sperger has some pretty serious songwriting and recording chops, and his music is worth a listen to on Spotify. You can check him out Thursday at The Garage, which is quickly becoming one of the top music hot spots in the area. 4-8 pm. thegaragewausau.com
