County committee recommends board member raises

Marathon County

County board members next term could be getting a raise.

The county’s executive committee last week approved a 3% increase for county board member salaries, as well as recommending an increase of pay to chairs and vice chairs of committees. That pay would increase from $800 to $1,200 for chairs, and $200 to $400 for vice chairs. Chairs run the committee meetings, and vice chairs fill in when the chairs are unavailable.

Those raises, if ultimately approved by the county board, would go into effect next term. The election for that new term is in April. Governing bodies are only able to raise pay for future versions of that body.

The raises come following a 2023 budget that looked to cut costs in several county departments, including funding for the non-profit services that contract with the county and with the library, for instance.

The county board will still need to approve the raises.
