Deputies arrest fugitive from Shawano County hiding in fort

Shawn D Clark fort Norrie arrest

Marathon County deputies along with help from other law enforcement officers arrested a fugitive from another county after finding him in a makeshift shelter in the woods.

Deputies arrested Shawn D. Clark of Eland last week after tracking him down to a secluded place in the woods near highways D and OO in the town of Norrie.

Clark was wanted by the Department of Corrections for failing to register as a sex offender. He was convicted of sexually assaulting a child in 2016, according to Marathon County court records, and had been sentenced following a revocation of his bond conditions.

Clark is expected to face new charges including possessing a firearm as a felon, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, and possessing a knife as a felon.

Investigators say Clark was living in a “clandestine fort” on private property in order to keep off the radar of law enforcement.

Clark had been featured on Shawano County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page’s “Wanted Wednesday” series prior to his apprehension.

Clark appeared in Shawano County court last week where a judge set a $1,500 cash bond. According to the latest court hearings, Clark remained in custody awaiting the appointment of an attorney.
