Children play on a Saturday at the Wausau Children’s Museum, which will soon move to the former Jump On It! location in the mall.

The owner of the Wausau Children’s Museum says the museum is about to expand to a larger location.

The Wausau Children’s Museum will move to the former Jump on It space on the opposite wing of Wausau Center mall by the end of September, says owner Shelly Bovet.

The museum opened in the mall in November 2015, after operating as a floating attraction for a number of months at locations such as the farmers market on The 400 Block.

The move to the former Jump on It location, vacated when the owners moved their business to Mountain Lanes, will give the museum an extra 2,000 square foot of space. This could pave the way for new exhibits such as a tinker lab (a children’s maker space), expanding the grocery store or building a Lego wall.

Bovet says the current location has become so busy sometimes that customers say they weren’t sure they wanted to come in. They’ve logged 16,000 visitors since opening in November. Bovet says they are excited about the move. “That’s the end of the mall we had our eye on last year, so the timing is amazing,” she says.
