A Rothschild Police Officer is on administrative leave following a “critical incident” in the village, state police officials say.
State Department of Justice officials say Rothschild, Everest Metro and Kronenwetter police departments responded to a welfare check call in the 1000 block of Urban Street around 9:45 pm Wednesday.
Police made contact with the resident inside, who fled to the bathroom where they obtained a gun. While in the bathroom, the resident shot themselves with the gun one time, DOJ officials say.
Police tried to save the resident’s life but those efforts were ultimately unsuccessful and the resident was pronounced dead at arrival to the hospital, officials say.
No police officers were injured in the incident and all officers involved were wearing their body cameras.
