“Girls’ Weekend”

In this lightning-quick farce, four women travel to Dot’s Northwoods cabin to consume copious amounts of wine, laugh at their lives, trade stories, and chat about their book club’s latest selection. However, after the third case of wine comes through the door, it becomes clear there will be more stewing than reviewing. As the bottles tip up, the secrets spill out and the men sneak in. Live Raptor Experience: Owls, Hawks & Falcons

Friday, Jan. 30 | Hsu Growing Supply, Wausau
The pros from Raptor Education Group Inc (REGI) are bringing in real live raptors for this educational program. Learn about owls, hawks and falcons by seeing these majestic creatures up close. Become better educated on the role they play in our environment and how to protect wildlife in Wisconsin. For every 10 tickets sold, Hsu Growing Supply funds (adopts) a bird to support REGI’s care. Garden Visions 2026

Saturday, Jan. 31 | Northcentral Technical College, Wausau
Now a cherished annual tradition, Garden Visions has blossomed into the region’s largest gardening conference, drawing attendees from across north central Wisconsin and beyond. In between listening to expert speakers, explore the vendor section and grab a hot lunch (included with registration). This year’s speakers will cover climate change impacts for Wisconsin gardeners, maintaining perennial gardens and landscape design, and managing a garden alongside birds. Both in person and virtual attendance offered. Sign-in starts at 7:30 a.m. Conference starts at 8:30 a.m. $40 virtual, $59 in person, $49 in person 62+. Badger State Games Winter Pickleball Tournament

Jan. 29 to Feb. 1 | Wausau Tennis & Pickleball Center, Wausau.

The second-largest pickleball tournament in the state returns to Wausau this week. Organizers expect to host about 1,250 pickleball games during the four-day tournament. With 278 players hailing from 68 different towns, eight courts will be buzzing with activity, competition and multi-generational community building. Enjoy watching the pickeball tournament for free. Absolute Cinema: “The Conformist”

Screening this month at UWSP is Bernardo Bertolucci’s 1970 film “The Conformist.” Based on Alberto Moravia’s novel, a repressed intellectual joins Mussolini’s Fascist secret police, agreeing to assassinate his former anti-fascist professor in Paris, a mission complicated by his own conflicted psyche and an encounter with the professor’s wife.
