Wausau Police have arrested a man they suspect was involved in the shooting outside M&R Station last month.

Police on Oct. 4 arrested Joseph Slater, 42 of Wausau, after he turned himself into the police at the Wausau Police Department that day.

Officers arrived to find a group of men outside M&R Station on Wausau’s west side, and one of them appeared to have a handgun. Police ordered the man to drop the gun, but he ran instead, they say, and one shot rang out from that general direction.

Police identified Slater from surveillance footage of the incident. Police say Slater turned himself in to police at the department’s headquarters.

After sweeping the area, police say they found a second handgun, which they say was reported stolen in Green Bay.

Slater is expected to face first degree recklessly endangering safety and weapons charges among others. He’s currently being held at Marathon County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond, according to online court records.

Police are also investigating a shooting last week that occurred outside Marathon Park. Police say a group started harassing and chasing a man and followed him when he pulled away from the park in a vehicle, shooting at the vehicle.
